Lily HIBBERD

Rarely encountered in the European art scene, Lily highlight the latest Australian artistic practice with her first solo exhibition in France.
Widely recognized in Australia, Lily Hibberd is an interdisciplinary conceptual artist and writer. Her practice is concerned with questions of time, memory and desire in contemporary life.
Lily has exhibited in the most prestigious Australian arts institutions, in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Perth, and also in London, Milan, New York and Switzerland.
She was the national winner of the USB Award, exhibited in 2000 at Whitechapel Gallery, London, and judged by the director of Tate Moderns, Sir Nicholas Serota.
For her solo exibition at Galerie de Roussan, Lily will expand on an extended investigation of ice and time. Her work examines the devices of time and its measurement that have ordered western thought since the late 18th century. Following her study of the Greenwich Meridian, her inspiration for this exhibition has also been drawn from Leon Foucault’s famous pendulum an other experiments presented at the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris.
In communicating these ideas, Lily will present a range of artworks, including photography, video, sculpture, phosphorescent painting and writing.
French philosopher and art critic, Manuela de Baros, will bring expertise in aestheticism and links between arts, sciences and technology, to write a critical texte for Lily’s exhibition.
Lily hold a PhD in Fine Art and is a lecturer in the Faculty of Art & Design at Monash University. She is the founding of the independent Australian art journal « Un Magazine ».

Galerie de ROUSSAN
This new art space results from a partnership between Jeanne Lepine and Anne Brengou.
One is a former art journalist and the other has gathered various experiences in the art market. Strongly convinced to create an open space based on exchange and dedicated to contemporary art, they decided to launch Galerie de Roussan.
Our Choices
Artists’selection is obvious and coherent. Anne and Jeanne look for artists with a point of view on our society, cynical, interrogative, humorous or suggestive. They choose to focus on artist personality more than a particular medium.
At the gallery, artists can show paintings, sculptures, installations, video or drawings, they express their point of view to reflect our time.
In order to give endless angles, the gallery will invite various artists from all around the world (French, Australian, Serbian, Belgium…)
Our venue
Enjoying a real artistic boom in Belleville’s district (east side of Paris), Galerie de Roussan took place in a district where a new generation of galleries shows a cutting edge selection of artists to express their differences.
Next the Marcelle Alix and Crevecoeur, two young galleries, the space combines warmth and privacy.
Divided in two floors, the venue allows original scenography and didactic path.
